The volcanic archipelago consisting of several beautiful islands is located north of Sicily. The islands are an UNESCO world heritage site because of their permanent volcanic activity and are just perfect for a quintessential Mediterranean holiday. Panarea and Stromboli are just two of the very beautiful and interesting islands next to Lipari, Salina, Vulcano, Filicudi and Alicudi.
Panarea is the second smallest of the volcanic islands and a perfect summer retreat. Despite the crowd of rich and famous tourists and yacht owners that come here in the summer, Panarea somehow still feels simple and calm. The main village San Pietro with its white houses and pink Bougainvillea bushes is beautiful but not as glamours as Capri, for example. There are no cars allowed on the island only taxis in the form of golf carts, but most places are within walking distance. Like the small church of San Pietro and most shops and restaurants around the small port. Outside the village there are green hills, volcanic rocks and pebbly beaches. Punta del Corvo is the highest point with great views. The beaches in the southern part are nice, like Cala Junco and Cala dei Zimmari. But also Spiaggia della Calcara in the north is unique with great views of the Stromboli. Apart from that you can take a boat trip, go snorkeling, visit the other islands or dance at hotel Raya.
