Here are some of the favorite places on the beautiful balearic island of Mallorca.
Mallorca is not a huge island but still big enough to need a car, if you want to be able to see all of the beautiful little bays and villages. Here’s a guide to the most beautiful local villages and beaches on the island of Mallorca.
The West Coast of Mallorca
The coast line is very beautiful and you find the pretty towns of Deià, Sóller and Valldemossa. Before Deià along the street take a stop at the pretty view point Mirador de sa Foradada.
In Deià stop at pretty cafe S’Hortet or at restaurant Nama serving south east asian quality food. Close to Daia you can explore a bunch of beautiful beaches and bays. There is for example Cala de Deià with the famous beach restaurant Ca’s Patró March.
Take a walk through the streets of Sóller, visit the church and little shops. For food stop at restaurant Re Organic, which serves organic dishes. Close to the city you can visit Ecovinyassa, a plantage for lemons and oranges. You have to book the tour and tasting in advance. Close to Sóller, at the sea there is the small port town Port de Sóller where you can have a sunset drink at restaurant Xelini or at Patiki Beach.
If you’re looking for something more active, hike the Barranc de Biniaraix trail. Once in the small village of Biniaraix, get some rest in Cafe Bodega Biniaraix.
The North Coast of Mallorca
The northern part of Mallorca is home to the small town of Pollença. It’s famous for the El Calvari chapel and the long staircase leading up to the chapel on the hill. From up there, you have a fantastic view over the countryside towards the sea. The main square of town is also very nice with lots of restaurants and bars. If you’re looking for the typical textiles of Mallorca, visit the Teixits Vicens store.
In Port de Pollença you find the beach as well as at Cala Sant Vicenç. For stunning views drive to the Mirador de El Colomer and later go to the beach at Platja de Formentor. There are also more little beach bays at Sa Calobra and Torrent de Pareis. More of beautiful wilder beaches can be found on the east side, for example Cala Mesquida, Cala Moltó or Cala Mesquida.
Or head towards Alcudia to go to the beach and to dine at restaurant Bodega Ca’n Pantina. If you head inland instead, stop in Caimari to have lunch at restaurant Ca na Toneta.
Another pretty town in the inland is Artà. You have great views of the hills and find many restaurants, around the main square or for example La Mar de Vins.
The East Coast of Mallorca
On the east coast of Mallorca you find many little towns, some quite touristic, some others still feeling more local and laid back. Villages like Portocolom or Porto Cristo which has a more local vibe. The small port and church are pretty and you find bars and restaurants like Quince, for example.
There are also more little bays and beaches of course, Cala Varques, Caló des Borgit, Cala Mondragó, S’Amarador, Cala Figuera, Es Pontàs, Cala Llombards, Caló des Moro and Cala s’Almunia. They are all around the pretty town of Santanyí.
The South Coast and Palma de Mallorca
Palma is a bustling city with lots of museums, shops and restaurants. Most famous landmark is the beautiful Cathedral of Palma. Also very beautiful are the gardens S’Hort del Rei, formerly part of the kings palace La Almudaina. For more contemporary art visit the art museum Es Baluard.
The old part of the city is very beautiful, so take a walk along the shopping street Passeig del Born or visit the historic market hall Mercat de l’Olivar.
Of course, there are also many great restaurants and cafes in town. The beautiful traditional bakery Fornet de la Soca has the best pastries. For modern coffee and brunch go to Cafè Riutort or Mistral Coffee House.
Have wine, appetitive or dinner at Toque de Queda, eat traditional tapas at La Bóveda, or go to Restaurant Botanic for a fine dinner.
Or head to the stylish neighborhood of Santa Catalina to get a delicious cinnamon bun at Palma Bread. Shop at NU Market & Coffee. For brunch head to Mama Carmen’s, or get pastries at Thomas bakeshop boutique and for a simple Spanish dinner go to Patrón Lunares.
Close to Palma, you can also visit Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca. The museum is located in the former art studios of artist Joan Miró.
If you want to head to the beach from Palma, go to the super fancy beach club Purobeach or lay in the sand at Platja de Can Pere Antoni. On the north west side of the island, not too far from Palma, there is the beach of Camp de Mar with it’s very photogenic restaurant Illeta.
